25th of April 2014:

Rather Be by Clean Bandit Featuring Jess Glynne is Nr.1 in Germany for a third week. That gives us the fourth number 1 hit in a row that holds firm for at least three weeks. I was counting the statistics the past week already resuming that the charts somehow slow down at the moment. This week it is much more obvious due to the fact that four consecutive number 1 hits spend at least three weeks is a feat last seen in early summer 2010 when five number one hits did so. 2010 (and 2012) was the year when Germany had only 13 different songs storming the top. A result not seen since 2002 when there were only 11 number 1 hits. Seems that we whitness a longer period of slowing down after a very busy time between 2003 and 2009.
To underline this situation the Top 5 is again completely unchanged. And even the whole Top100 contains 5 new songs and 4 re-entries only. That's the lowest turnover since July 2012 when an almost three years phase of very static charts slowly ended. This might a renaissance of that time.

David Guetta still is the artist of the current decade who had the most chart entries at all. This week his summary is 611 weeks since January 1st 2010. Runner’s up Pitbull is 140 weeks behind.
The success of the French DJ Guetta is grounded on two very successful albums: One Love in 2009 and Nothing But The Beat in 2011. Both propelled a bunch of single hits into the song charts too. 11 of them going Top 10 including 6 Top 5 hits.
The upcoming album is scheduled for 2014 and for promotion the DJ offers new tracks since summer last year. Track number 3 Bad (a collaboration with Dutch Showtek) was released on April 7th midweek which propelled it to number 49 only in its first week. This issue full week’s sales count into the list giving the track a proper number 19. Well – the master still knows how to launch hits. But the real huge success still ain’t around in 2014.

Almost the same story could be told 'bout Pitbull. The past four years he was extremely successful. The duet with KE$HA Timber gave him his second number 1 in Germany. That was back in December 2013. Now he was chosen to record the official FIFA anthem for WM14 in Brazil. The track We Are One (a well working duet with Jennifer Lopez) was released on April 8th making it chart at number 72 past issue. Now with full sales the track shoots to number 20. I guess this ain't all we will see from this track. Anyway it is the best performance for JLO since summer 2012 when she hit the German Top 20 past alongside ... ehm - of course Pitbull.

Highest new entry is once again a German battle rap. The story started on a show by Sido on April 14th when entertainer and comedian Joko had an appearance as a rapper and dissing some B-level stars. A day later the answer by Eko Fresh Frauenarzt Manny Marc Bass Sultan Hengzt was digitally available. The fun is on the audience–Joko Diss enters the list at number 24.

Tracks on the rise
Still Aloe Blacc climbs up the list with I'm A Man. Number 1 in the UK, number 8 in the USA–in Germany the track stops now at number 43 which is close to the peak of his last release the solo take on Wake Me Up. An official release date as a stand alone single stilkl does not exist in Germany. Strange marketing strategy.
Another self evolving hit is All Night by Parov Stelar. The track climbs up the list as an album cut from his latest CD chosen by the audience. The latest kick for getting Electro Swing a mainstream phenomenon came by some shows the DJ had around here including one in Berlin. So far he is a star in Austria and some eastern European countries. The late success in Germany also tells a lot about dance music here in the past years.
Indila finally enters the Top 50 stopping at number 47 with Dernière Danse. Some internet sellers list the album Mini World at the very Top–the official media control charts saw it at number 35. It seems there is a gap in the way the official charts are compiled.
It was an easy bet predicting Best Day Of My Life by American Authors becoming a hit. This week the track rises 81–61, a few remixes will be released next days, the full CD single is scheduled for beginning of May.
The next deep house inspired mainstream hit comes in at number 70 in the shape of She Moves (Far Away) produced by DJ Alle Farben. The proper release is scheduled for beginning of May. His popularity already is big enough letting the track chart before. So far the DJ is best known for his Synesthesia sets played on several events and additionally released on soundcloud. The upcoming album is titled also Synesthesia.

DSDS effects
April 12th 2014 the third live show was aired. Again two tracks were propelled back in the list after they were performed on the show. The low impact they really have on the charts shows which way the format probably goes. Season 12 in spring 2015 is already scheduled anyway.
On number 58 Say Something by A Great Big World And Christina Aguilera lands. It is a new peak for the song that stalled at number 79 in January. Eisberg by Andreas Bourani also has a further appearance landing at number 66. It is exactly the same place the song had last time in November 2012.

Hallelujah very often is referred to be one of the best songs of all time. The song was written by Leonhard Cohen but the recording of Jeff Buckley became much more popular. The quality of the song and the recording did never grab the mainstream. Number 38 a year ago is all the track so far managed to reach. Mostly it can chart after a hopeful contestant staged on a casting show with the tune. So it will happen probably in next weeks time. On The Voice Kids a young duo has performed the song. But that's not all. A week before the casting show a video on youtube became a viral hit featuring a priest in a wedding ceremony singing Hallelujah. The video already collected 2 million clicks and brings the recording by Jeff Buckley back to chart honour. This week it re-enters number 76. Will it grow further this time?

18th of April 2014:

While the charts of the UK at this very moment changing faster and faster–it is the 9th week in a row that Britain celebrates a complete new number 1–in Germany the turn of number 1 songs slows down further. Last weeks Top single is the top selling song this current week also. Rather Be by Clean Bandit Featuring Jess Glynne holds firm for a second week and is the fourth consecutive chart topper that spends at least two weeks there. In other words: since late December chart toppers managed to hold their position at least for two weeks.
What sounds quite noteworthy is not at all that spectacular for winter and early spring time. From NOvember 2012 to May 2013 we had five consecutive chart toppers spending more than one week at the Top. From December 2011 to May 2012 there were also five. So there is some way to go still before we proclaim a new record in calmness.
A static top ain't a static list at all. But this current week it is so. The whole Top 5 remains unchanged–a situation found on January 24th also. So decide yourself whether the charts are thrilling these days or not.

New inside the Top 10:
Australian Vance Joy slides up two further places landing now at number 9 with Riptide. In comparison with Route 94's My Love at number 8 it is the third deep house track inside the German Top 10.

The highest new entry starts lowly at number 32 which is the third lowest hot new entry this year. The honour goes to German rappers KC Rebell Feat. Farid Bang. Their Kanax in Moskau is a sequel to Kanax in Paris released in March last year and stopped at number 60.
Farid Bang with this current entry collects 13 chart entries no one peaking higher than number 28. He is hard on the way of becoming one of the artists with most charting tracks but never entering the top 20. On the actual summary of this list he stands at number 6. So German gangster rap is highly productive but still a product for a very small scenery.
One rapper with some more attention is Kollegah. His youtube channel Bosshaft-TV has half a million of regular viewers. Every week he releases at least five new videos and some days ago he was nominated five times for the German web video award which will be given late May. All that presence may help his single Alpha back to the list. It lands at number 35 again in its 7th chart week. For a gangster track this is a hilarious result. With a freshly released video also AKs im Wandschrank is back on the list. It now stands on number 36–9 places higher than three weeks ago when it first appeared on the survey.

Future hits:
Dernière Danse by Indila was number 1 i France already. Some independent seller in Germany offered the track plus album since end of February. The official and proper release followed on April 11th. A week before the demand seems huge. The track enters the list at number 53 after it had a short appearance in early march at number 98.
Aloe Blacc's new single The Man shot to number 1 in the UK last week. In Germany there is no official release date distributed. Anyway the track climbs up the charts right now. This week it lands at number 56.
Already released as a single in 2012 Parov Stelar's All Night this week enters the charts for the very first time. The founder of electro swing makes his German chart debut at number 57.

DSDS effect
Emeli Sandé benefits from the performance by Yasemin. Free re-enters at number 70.

In the German wikipedia their is a long during beef about how important a remixer is and whether producer are worth mentioning on the encyclopedia if they "only" release remixes. This week there is an evidence that a remix can do a lot to a song. The band American Authors is signed to a moajor company since 2012. It released Best Day Of My Life back than–the hiatus of success came early this year. A Europe wide release followed. In Germany the single was available since March. Now the track enters at number 81 and probably will rise higher cause of the new announced remixes by likes such as Such A Gent who brought the indie rock song into a trap/deep house style. The German wikipedia does not know the remixer, neither does the English one.
Another trap artist debuts at the German charts due to an appearance on the latest issue of The Dome compilation. Turn Down for What by DJ Snake and Lil Jon already was released in December 2013. In March 2014 the track was chosen to complete the 69th edition of the successfull compilation serial and finally makes its way into the list as an standalone track also. Number 93 is the rank it gets this week. For Lil Jon it is the first new material inside the German list since 2006.

On the very end of the list the release of the DVD/BluRay version of Frozen brings signature song Let It Go by Demi Lovato back to the list. Number 83 is 8 ranks better than its original performance back in February.

11th of April: Jess Glynne is the star of the moment

This week Rather Be goes Nr.1 in Germany also. According to acharts.us it is the seventh country where Clean Bandit Featuring Jess Glynne can reach the Top. It is the first British number 1 since October past year when James Blunt shot to the Top with Bonfire Heart but left the sunny place after a week already.

Having a look at the velocity of change at the Top we do have the fourth song entering the Top in 2014. Last year this current week there were still the third number 1 song appearing as the most selling song in the face of Passenger’s Let Her Go which actually was only the second British number 1 hit in 2013. This marks what weak year British pop music had.

Rather Be took nine weeks to reach its peak which is a long time for a number 1 song. But in fact we just had a late chart topper t the end of 2013 when Timber by Pitbull Feat. KE$HA topped the list in its 11th chart week. From all this we can resume: the taste of music buyers change a little more often but it takes a longer time for convincing masses.

Jess Glynne ain't only a nr.1 act right now. She also has a second track arriving in the Top 10. My Love goes 20–10 in its third chart week which makes her the most successful newcomer of 2014 so far. Sales of the freshly released CD will count from next week on–so expect some more power and probably a further rise of the song.

The highest new entry comes from Germany and starts at number 6. It is the second pre-release of Jan Delay’s upcoming album Hammer und Michel. St. Pauli is only the third Top 10 hit for the rapper and singer who already has a 20 years long music career. Nr.6 exactly matches the result of his last Top 10 hit Oh Johnny in summer 2009.

On March 28th the full EP of Riptide by Vance Joy appeared in shelves. It contains the original and the very popular deep house remix by Flic Flac which gives the song a boost in sales going 23–11. It is now the most popular song produced by an Australian artist. The last one Changes (featuring Pnau) was a number 1 back in December and still sits pretty at number 29.
A further deep house hit enters the top 20 in the face of Bakermat's One Day (Vandaag). After three weeks inside the charts the production only managed to rise three places. Might be a sign for the fact that a deep house rhythm alone doesn't attract people that much anymore. Still the crowd loving that sound is strong.

ECHO effect number 2: After the performance of Die Fantastischen Vier on the award show on 27th of March the demand in the anniversary release raises a lot. 25 goes 27–15. On the show the four presented a four minutes mash up medley of 25 hits.

With new vocals available Tsunami by DVBBS & Borgeous returns the direction within the singles charts and can rise 53–40. The new version officially is called Tsunami (Jump) and features lyrics by Tinie Tempah. In the UK the new track topped the charts three weeks ago. In Germany the track already collected 20 chart weeks.

How far will it go? The first week the track is available as an official digital single Down By The River by Milky Chance can climb ten places to number 44. It's not much but actually predecessor Stolen Dance took 18 weeks to peak at number 2. So there is some time left for the new track.

A full weeks sales makes Loyal by Chris Brown Lil Wayne Tyga propel up the list 81–54 which is one of the biggest jump this week. Still number 54 is a bad result for leading artist Chris Brown although it is a new peak for accompanying TYGA.

BIRDY announces single number four from her album Fire Within. Words As Weapons is scheduled for a release on April 14th–the video was premiered end of March and makes the song charting as an album cut at number 63. So far only Wings managed to chart from the current album.

4th of April 2014: ECHO and first DSDS effects

Week number four at the German top for MR PROBZ and his Waves. Now Bailando by Loona in late summer 1998 is the last Dutch production that was sitting at number 1 that long for last.

More or less the Top 10 looks very static. More movement might be seen at number 14. Scheduled for CD release on April 18th Budapest by George Ezra climbs to real hit status. He signed a few weeks ago a contract with Sony Music–now the broad marketing machine works and brings him to more publicity in all media. That’s how the business still works.

A very similar sound and atmosphere lands at number 19 in the face of James Blunt. With Heart To Heart released on CD as well the track jumps 14 places. Seems that the fans of the singer are a little conservative in the way they consume music. Underlining that the track got a sales boost on Thursday night (March 27th). Then the ECHO award ceremony took place and one of the highlights was the duet by James Blunt and Helene Fischer who sang Heart To Heart.

More ECHO effect on the list:
Decorated with an award Swedish producer and DJ AVICII also shows new strength in the list. Wake Me Up! goes 59–42, Hey Brother 44-41 and his current hit Addicted To You climbs one place to number 7 again.

Also Shakira staged on the show to promote the release of her new self titled album. It starts at number 5 on the album’s list. Additionally her song Dare (La La La) enters the song charts at number 45. The song was chosen to be the official soccer WM song 2014. Of course her appearance in the new Danone commercial campaign also boosts her media presence.

After his performance on the ECHO show also veteran Peter Maffay sees his new single Gelobtes Land fly to number 48. It is his 49th chart entry at all and the highest entry since his charity project Children Of The World in 2007 which reached number 30. The singer started his chart career exactly 44 years ago. On April 1st 1970 his single Du entered the list for the very first time. In June the song was number 1.

Other TV events propel hits up the charts too. Well known DSDS (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) still has the power and influence to force music sales. Such it is the fact on following act: She was one of the Top female voices in 2012. Coming from nowhere Emeli Sandé had have five hits back in that year. In 2013 it was a little more dumbed around her. The well known songs clang on a little but new material didn’t catch really fire. So exactly one year ago also Clown had a very short chart appearance only sneaking in the list for a single week at number 93. This week the song returns with power thanks to the new season of DSDS. It was Vanessa Valera Rojas who performed the song and got her ticket for the live shows. The original re-enters the list at number 36 on sales.

It is a surprise that TV serial Tatort can launch a second hit within four months. In January it was Nick Cave who reached number 77 after his song Push The Sky Away was used in the movie. This week it is Ben Howard. The song Depth Over Distance was used in Der Fall Reinhardt a little confusing story with a highly decorated cast. Ben Becker and Susanne Wolff played the main characters. The song goes number 55.

Upcoming dancefloor tracks:
There are several tracks for the floor around with growing interest in it. First of all there is the next big thing called My Love by Route 94 Feat. Jess Glynne which still is digitally available only. The track jumps 53–20 in its second chart week which gives an impression of what might happen to the track in two weeks time when the full CD release is in shelves. It is the second Top 20 hit for singer Jess Glynne within six weeks.
Already a week before its official release the new remix (the official festival mix) of Show Me Love by the Michael Mind Project enters the list. In 2008 the first version of the cover reached number 38–now it starts chart life at number 62. The original recording by Robin S. made it to number 11 in 1993. Still a long way to go for the remake. – The take on the signal theme by Kid Ink still sneaks through the end of the list. This week it collects its 28th chart week at number 90.
On the way up Gorgon City Ft. Mnek arrives inside the Top 75. Ready For Your Love is number 70 in its third chart week.
Also W&W enter the list a week ahead of the official release of Bigfoot. Last week they already reached the Austrian charts. Now number 74 is the first result for the Dutch duo in Germany. It is the second list they can enter worldwide.
With new remixes available finally Kids by Style Of Eye Ft. Soso finds a bigger audience. The track enters the list at number 76. The man behind Style of Eye has some chart experience as the writer of Icona Pop's I Love It which invaded the charts last year and stopped at nr.3.

The highest new entry comes in at number 35 which is the second lowest result of the year 2014. Only on January the 10th the highest new entry was weaker due to the lack of real new releases. This week it is Australian rock band 5 Seconds of Summer that see it single She Looks So Perfect stall close to the middle of the charts. Probably it aint the high time for rock issues right now. Or is it more a kind of tiredness for boy bands?

After Gäa became a hit for Oonagh on its own the proper release as CD single follows and throws the song back to the list. It enters number 67 which marks a new peak for that song.

Released midweek Loyal by Chris Brown Lil Wayne Tyga start half power at number 81. The reduced r’n’b production might have some more fire in it but will it give Chris Brown the hit he so urgently need? His last Top 10 appearance is three years ago. Even the Top 20 saw him last two years ago. His last single as main artist stalled at number 48 last summer. Ehm–there is something work to do for the star.
