June 30th 17: Slowest First Half Year Since 1960

As Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee (feat. Justin Bieber) still occupy #1 spot with Despacito there is some historical story to be told. As the song now achieves its tenth week at the top we now have two consecutive #1 hits spending weeks in double figures there. Last time something happened like this was back in early 1992 when Let's Talk About Sex by Salt'n'Pepa with 10 weeks was followed by U96 with Das Boot which spent another 13 weeks at #1. It was that also the time when the change of #1 hits went as slowly as today: In 28 weeks there were only three different songs seen at #1–right now it is week no.27 with only three #1 songs.

As June 30th is the very last day of the first half of the year it is worth looking at other years. Having the first six months with only three songs at the top is a feat seen last time in 1960. Of course back than the charts were a complete different thing as they were issued monthly. Having three #1 hits in a row that spent two months there is very likely a different thing than the feat right now–so one might take that information not as serious.

As the whole top 10 is kind of lazy also the only new song inside the top 10 ain't that big stormer. It is Attention by Charlie Puth which gains one single place to enter #10. It is this the first top 10 hit for the singer since his #1 debut alongside Wiz Khalifa See You Again back in spring 2015.
